The Lillitha

In the beginning: was GOD. And He made ADAM, who was MAN. Because man must have WOMAN, God made LILITH to be Adam’s companion. And they walked in EDEN that was the centre of all light on earth.

But Lilith turned her face from Adam and looked out at the darkness beyond Eden, where light had not yet come. And Adam, who shunned the darkness, called her back. But when Lilith turned back to him, the darkness had marked her face and she was terrible to his eyes. And Adam was afraid and called out to God.

And God said to Lilith: “Because you have shunned My light and turned towards darkness, you shall be sent forth into the night, and never more show your face by day. And your children shall be even as you are, and they shall be marked as you are, so that Man will know them to be not of his kind.”

And Lilith turned her back on Eden and entered the long night.

And God took a part of the body of Adam and made the second woman, EVE. And because she was fashioned of the stuff of Adam, she was even as he was and shunned the darkness. And the children of the union of Adam and Eve were called MANKIND.

But Lilith passed out of the day in which mankind walked, and became not Woman but DEMON. And her children were born of unions with things unseen that dwelt in the shadow; and they had no name. And some of them were like the children of men in shape, but by night they shed those forms and became like unto she who bore them; and the children of men cursed them and called them demons and hunted them. And others bore the form of their mother by night and day, and the children of men called them monsters and feared them beyond all others.

And the children of Lilith came to see themselves as cast out of the light of God, and over the ages they turned away from He who made Man, and worshipped instead She who bore them. But She who was First Demon and Mother to those who walked by night heard their calls not, nor did she answer them..
